Job offer asking for your official documents: scam alert

Key points, November 2026

  • Never send ID, bank details or social-security card before you have a contract and a verified employer. They are used to open accounts, take credit or launder money in your name.
  • Quick checks: is the offer on the company's official site? Is the email on the company's domain, not a free account? Does the recruiter exist on LinkedIn with a consistent history?
  • Current variants: fake recruiters on professional networks, deepfake video interviews, downloadable "technical tests" that install malware (aimed at developers), parcel-reshipping jobs that turn you into a money mule.
  • If you are a victim: report it to the police or your national fraud portal, file a complaint, and contact your bank.
